FREE Writing Land & Place

Registration opens at 11 am on August 24, 2023.

Description: This 4-hour writing workshop will explore participants’ connection to land and place, beginning with a short walking meditation to help ground ourselves, followed by specific land-based writing exercises. Whether your connection to the land stems from roots that run deep or roots that are newly planted, this reflexive writing workshop will allow participants to examine how land and place intersect, connecting us all to each other.

Audience: Adults

Supplies:

  • Journal/ writing instrument
  • Lunch, snacks, and water bottle
  • Weather-appropriate clothing/ footwear

Cancellation and Refund Policy: Please note there is a NO REFUND policy on all Leighton Art Centre workshops. A refund will only be issued to participants if the workshop is cancelled by the workshop coordinator due to insufficient enrollment or extreme weather conditions. Workshops may be cancelled prior to the start date and participants will be notified via email and/or phone, and a full refund will be processed.

Withdrawal from workshops for medical reasons must be accompanied by a doctor’s medical note or a positive COVID-19 rapid test and must be received by the Leighton workshop coordinator prior to the workshop start date to be qualified for a full refund.

Artist/ Instructor Biography: Ashley Holloway gets bored easily, so she lives her life according to an ‘&.’ She teaches healthcare leadership in Calgary, AB, and is a nurse with a Master of Public Health, and a graduate diploma in Global Leadership, with further studies in intercultural communication and international development. She writes in a variety of genres, including short fiction, book reviews, poetry, essays, academic works, and creative non-fiction. Her work has appeared across Canada and the US, and she has co-authored three books. Ashley is an editor for Unleash Press. Her work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She also really loves punctuation.
