Welcome to Paint The Foothills, Leighton Art Centre’s signature fall event where artists and community come together in a celebration of art and nature. We can’t wait to see you there!

This year, Paint The Foothills features a two-day plein air Painting Competition for Leighton Art Centre members (membership cost: $50/year), several FREE Plein Air Workshops aimed at a range of skill levels including families, a Public Reception for Come Paint Alberta and Night Lights: The Wonder of the Northern Lights, and **new this year** a Harvest Dinner featuring a gourmet burger bar and a 300-mile vista of the Rocky Mountains at sunset.

Not a competitive painter? There’s still lots for you to enjoy! Come out to paint & picnic (or just picnic!) at your own pace, go for a walk along our nature trails and take in some truly spectacular views, and be inspired by dozens of talented artists creating on the land, under our big Alberta skies. Be sure to experience the two contemporary art exhibitions in the gallery and don’t miss the shop, featuring the original creations of dozens of Alberta artists and artisans.

Free Workshops
FREE Plein Air Oil Painting Workshop with Louise Lacey-Rokosh 10 am – 12:30 pm
Free Family Fun en Plein Air with Sue Contini 10 am – 12:30 pm
Exhibition Reception for Come Paint Alberta and Night Lights 2 – 4 pm
Harvest Dinner 5 – 8 pm $60 pp (50% off for registered competition artists who buy their ticket by September 7th)
This special evening event will feature:
- Fresh plein air artworks created same-day, onsite from our plein air competition, painted by artists of all skill levels.
- A catered dinner, paired with samples of delicious drinks from local distilleries and breweries.
- An opportunity to talk with plein air painting competitors.
- A chance to vote on your favorite artwork, meet exhibiting artists, and network with Alberta’s art enthusiasts and collectors.
- A chance to win our 50/50 raffle, which will be drawn that night.
- Live music, a beautiful Rocky Mountain sunset, and the best view in Alberta!
