Spending the day on Leighton Art Centre’s eighty acres, with its sweeping valley and mountain views, exploring “The Landscape Within”, we will turn our backs on the grand vistas and experience the small view – the scene within the scene. Not macro photography but the magical landscape at your feet.
Interpretations of “the landscape” have been far more adventurous in painting than in photography. Canadian painter, AY Jackson has said “Tussle with nature — select only the core of what you see… Simplify — get the essentials of the landscape into sharp focus” Photographers of all abilities will be inspired to create captivating images that express emotion and capture the natural world’s magical small landscapes.
Our itinerary includes explorations of “The Landscape Within”, vision, the “Art of Seeing”, simplicity, reviewing sample images, photographic workflow and making images.

Artist/Instructor Bio: Barry’s passion as a photographer is to experience the moment and capture the magic in the world around him. The work is contemplative utilizing elements of simplicity and story. His approach to photography is spontaneous and reactive — going out on adventures with no preconceived notion of anything. Images are created as he experiences the wonder of nature.
As an educator and professional learning specialist, Barry encouraged students and educators to evaluate and share learning with photographs, photo essays, storytelling and digital stories. Now he teaches photography, joins a friend in creating and teaching the Japanese art form Haiga (Haiku plus an Image) and makes intimate images to inspire people to explore and “see” the magic in the world.
