Keep It Simple! Landscape Basics: Class 1

Description: Join Canadian contemporary landscape artist Theresa Williams for a relaxed and informative landscape workshop, open to all skill levels. Whether you’re new to painting or looking to simplify your current practice, this 2.5-hour indoor session will help you feel more confident and prepared.

Held in our historical Schoolhouse Art Studio, this workshop will cover the essentials of landscape painting. You’ll learn helpful tips, try a few basic exercises, and leave with small sample paintings and colour examples for future reference. You will explore 3 colours plus white and learn how a limited palette can save you time and money without sacrificing creative colour and harmony. Everything you learn can be used inside your studio or outside on location.

Audience: 16+

  • Oil Paints: Cadmium Yellow Light, Quinacridone Magenta, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White
  • Pencil
  • Sketchbook
  • Paper Towel

Artist/ Instructor Biography: Theresa Williams, a contemporary landscape artist based in Carstairs, Alberta, is known for her plein air painting, steering wheel easel, limited color palette, bold mark-making and evocative prairie vistas. Her artwork hangs in private collections both nationally and internationally, and several permanent public collections including the BMO Centre in Calgary. Theresa’s paintings have been published in newspapers and magazines and featured in a book of local Alberta History. She has shown in many juried group exhibitions. In 2023 and 2024 she participated in Glacier Plein Air, a juried international event held annually in Montana, USA. Theresa is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists and a juried member of the Alberta Society of Artists. She is currently represented by Bluerock Gallery in Diamond Valley, Leighton Art Centre near Calgary, and seasonally at Gust Gallery in Waterton.
