Introduction to PhotoPoetry

Description:

PhotoPoetry is an artform in which a photograph and a poem are of equal importance and influence to one another. This workshop will involve a portion of free range photography on the property (with prompts and guidance as needed) as well as a writing segment that will use your images to inspire different styles of poetry. Participants will receive constructive feedback on their photos and writing, as well as learn some foundational skills for expanding their practices in both areas. A blending of these two artistic mediums in a refreshing and insightful way.

*Please note that the fee for this workshop includes admittance to our historic museum , walking paths and art gallery on the property, which can be enjoyed at your own discretion after the workshop is completed. Leighton Centre is a proud non-profit organization that relies on donations to help meet demanding operational costs. Cost: $50 per person (GST & Eventbrite fees included)

Audience: 12+ (all experience levels welcome)

Supplies:

– Digital camera, phone or tablet w/ camera

– Notebook (and a favorite pen if you have one)

– Existing photographs that may inspire a written piece

– Water bottle & snack – no food services on site

– An open mind!

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Please note there is a NO REFUND policy on all Leighton Art Centre workshops. A refund will only be issued to participants if the workshop is cancelled by the workshop coordinator due to insufficient enrollment, extreme weather conditions, or Covid-19 restrictions. Workshops may be cancelled prior to the start date and participants will be notified via email and/or phone, and a full refund will be processed.

Instructor Biography: Pamela O’Brien is a local educator, published poet & experienced hobby photographer. When she isn’t teaching or on adventures with her two daughters, she likes to spend her time volunteering for local organizations such as the SPCA, Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills & Oilfields Sports Association.
