Bar U: 30 Artists in 30 Years

Description: Back by popular demand – round two at the Bar U! Accompany artists Louise Lacey-Rokosh and Theresa Williams for a full day of plein air painting at the historic Bar U Ranch, as we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of this iconic national historic site. Join us Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site in Longview, Alberta. Participation is free, but pre-registration is required.

The day will begin with a guided interpretive tour of the Bar U Ranch, providing insight into its rich history and stunning prairie landscape. After the tour, artists are welcome to grab lunch at the JRRR BBQ food truck with their complimentary meal voucher before spreading out across the site to paint en plein air, capturing the beauty of the land through their own creative lens. Artists are welcome to set up anywhere on the site and in any building.

After the event, artists will have the opportunity to showcase their ‘best’ work created during the event in a special display at the Bar U Ranch Visitor Centre, on view until the end of the season.

Audience: All skill/experience levels are welcome!

Registration Cost: This is a free event, but we do ask that you pre-register. Admission to the Bar U Ranch is free from June 20 to Sept 2, 2025.

Supplies:

• Please bring your own painting supplies (easel, paints, brushes, canvas, water, etc.), a hat, sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and appropriate clothing for the weather.

Parking and Accessibility: Free parking is available at the Bar U Ranch Visitor Centre. The site includes both paved and gravel pathways; some areas may be uneven.

Rain-Out Policy: Dress for the weather – we will continue on rain or shine!
