Having developed her own techniques for designing patterns and carrying out processes, Rachelle is renowned for her individual artistic style and her ability to capture meaning and mood in her pieces. The Leighton Art Centre invites you to join us in a 3-day workshop led by exhibiting artist, Rachelle Leblanc.
Students will learn to translate a photograph to a design, color plan, and begin to develop their own style as an artist. Rachelle will walk you through her process from beginning to end so that students leave with the ability to design and create patterns of their own. Rachelle creates an atmosphere full of reflective learning and quiet encouragement so that students can find their inner voice and translate it into their own art.
For some this will be their first time creating their own rug hooking pattern. For those people, simply picking up a pencil or a paint brush can be an intimidating step, but it doesn't have to be. You don't need to know how to draw or paint to take this workshop. You just need to be open to trying.
We will explore the human figure and its proportions, basic composition, choosing an effective subject, color planning tools, the use of color when hooking skin tones, hair and clothing. Demonstrations on a dyeing technique called "under dyeing". Rachelle will also demonstrate her finishing technique called "Gallery Finish", and how to hook without a frame when using a latch hook will all be visited during the 3rd day of class.
